How to Make Sure That Your Trial Balance Balances

You can watch the video procedure or follow the instructions below.

Instructions

1. Go to the “Reports” tab, and click on “Trial Balance.”

2. Select the date of the trial balance, which should be the last day of the month.

3. The first way to fix an unbalanced trial balance is by checking if you have forgotten some deposits. Go to the “Accounting” tab and the “Deposits” subtab, and click on “Add.”

4. If you have forgotten a collection, tick it, and click on “Finish.”

5. Go back to the “Reports” tab, and click on “Trial Balance.”

6. If it still does not balance, it might be because you have accounted for some of your revenue and expenses in the wrong financial period. Go to the “Data” tab and the “Companies” subtab.

7. Click on the company whose trial balance does not balance, and click on “Edit.”

8. In the third page of the dialog box, select a different financial period.
This makes it so that the software accounts for all the transactions starting from the date of your financial period to the date of the trial balance.

9. Go back to the “Reports” tab, and click on “Trial Balance.”

Your trial balance should now balance.

Here is why your trial balance does not balance.

If you see that your trial balance, which you can find in the “Reports” tab, does not balance, there could be a few reasons.

First and foremost, you must make sure that the date of the trial balance is the last day of the month.

The first reason is that you have forgotten some deposits.

To check, go to the “Accounting” tab and the “Deposits” subtab, and click on “Add.”

If you have forgotten a collection, it will be there. Tick it, and click on “Finish.” You cannot have any deposits left before the date of the trial balance.

Go back to your trial balance, and select the right date.

If it still does not balance, it might be because you have accounted for some of your revenue and expenses in the wrong financial period.

If this is the case, go to the “Data” tab and the “Companies” subtab, click on the company whose trial balance does not balance, and click on “Edit” in the upper right corner.

Click on the third page of the dialog box, and select a different financial period. This makes it so that the software accounts for all the transactions starting from the date of your financial period to the date of the trial balance.

When you go back to your trial balance, you will see that it now balances.
